About
Why METIS?
Midwives are central to maternal health and safe births, a fact recognised by WHO. Yet attrition is a major problem: in some countries, one in three leaves the profession within their first years. This weakens health systems and puts families at risk.
Objectives
- Improve employability with Eportfolio-driven job application training.
- Support onboarding with structured mentorship and wellbeing tools.
- Strengthen lifelong learning through CPD pathways.
- Provide EU-level policy recommendations to reduce workforce dropout.
Expected Impact
- Fewer midwives leaving in their early years.
- Better workforce sustainability.
- Better responses to early-career challenges and stressors.
- Smoother transitions and stronger retention through improved support.
- A scalable EU framework adaptable for other health professions.
