Stronger Transitions, Stronger Midwives: METIS at ICM Lisbon
Members of the METIS consortium met in Lisbon during the 34th International Confederation of Midwives Triennial Congress, held from 14–18 June 2026 under the theme “One Million More Midwives.” The Congress brought together midwives, educators, researchers, professional associations, policymakers and partners from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss the future of midwifery and sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health.

METIS at UGent’s Internationalisation Inspiration Afternoon
On 21 May, we presented the METIS-project at UGent’s Internationalisation Inspiration Afternoon. The event brought together staff supporting students, lecturers, and programmes, with a focus on strengthening internationalisation.
METIS Gathers Expert Feedback at First Advisory Board Meeting
The METIS project recently held its first online Advisory Board meeting on 11 May 2026, bringing together project partners and advisory members to review progress, exchange ideas, and gather feedback on the project’s next steps. The meeting focused on how METIS can continue developing practical, evidence-based tools to support midwifery students and newly qualified midwives as they move from education into professional practice.
Live Kick-Off of the METIS Project in Athens
The METIS consortium met for its second in-person project meeting in Athens on April 16–17, 2026, hosted by the University of West Attica (UNIWA). Building on the strong foundation established during the kick-off meeting in Ghent, partners focused on advancing key project components and moving more decisively into the implementation phase.
Exploring the Transition to Practice: Midwifery Students Share Their Voices
Starting a career in midwifery is an exciting but also challenging step.
As part of the METIS project, three focus groups were conducted with final-year midwifery students from Artevelde University of Applied Sciences (Belgium), Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany), and the University of West Attica (Greece). The aim was to explore how students experience this important transition as they prepare to enter the labour market.

Strengthening Impact and Monitoring in Our Erasmus+ Project
As part of our Erasmus+ KA2 project, several members of our project team took part in a dedicated Impact+ and monitoring day. The morning workshop gave us valuable time and structure to jointly reflect on the intended impact of our project. Working together as a team helped us sharpen our project narrative, align expectations, and better connect our activities to concrete and sustainable outcomes.
Live Kick-off of the METIS Project in Ghent
The METIS project officially kicked off with its first in-person partner meeting in November, hosted in the inspiring setting of the Old Abbey of Drongen in Ghent on November 20, 2025. For many partners, this marked the first opportunity to meet face to face and begin shaping the project together as a consortium.
First International Presentation of METIS at the EMA Congress in Malta
METIS marked an important milestone with its first international presentation at the European Midwifery Association (EMA) Congress in Malta, held October 24-25, 2025. Organized every three years, the EMA Congress brings together midwives, educators, researchers, and professional leaders from across Europe, with a strong focus on midwifery education, professional development, and the future of the profession.
