About the Organization

The European Midwives Association (EMA) is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation of midwives, representing midwifery organisations and associations from the member states of the European Union (EU), members of the Council of Europe, the European Economic Area (EEA) and EU applicant countries.

EMA provides a platform for European midwives to collaborate, share best practices, and influence health policy at the European level. By advocating for strong midwifery standards in education, practice, and research, EMA works to ensure that all women and birthing people have equitable access to high‑quality midwifery care.

Work Package Overview

As an Associate Partner, the European Midwives Association (EMA) oversees quality assurance to ensure that the interventions developed in WP2 and WP3 comply with EU directives, policies, and best practices in midwifery workforce development.

The members of the Practice Advisory Committee will take up this role because there is a perfect fit with their purpose which is “to enhance clinical practice, develop practice guidelines, and address clinical challenges in midwifery, while also promoting leadership development among midwives”.

EMA is one of the Advisory Board members, which meets twice per year—fully online to reduce travel and costs. All consortium partners are invited. Before each meeting, WP-leads submit a brief internal progress report. The coordinator compiles these reports and presents conclusions to the Advisory Board, which may recommend corrective actions if needed. These 6‑monthly reports cover both project progress and budget use, ensuring transparency and effective implementation.
