About the Organization

BioRICS is a Belgian high-tech company and university spin-off specializing in biometric monitoring and data analytics for health, performance, and well-being. Originating from applied research in physiology and human performance, BioRICS is specialized in real-time individualized algorithms for the early detection of risk for burn-out, infection, injury and mental/physical disbalances.

Within METIS, BioRICS contributes evidence-based tools that complement educational and mentorship interventions by adding an objective, real-time layer of well-being data, thereby supporting prevention-oriented workforce sustainability strategies rather than reactive burnout management.

Work Package Overview

BioRICS contributes to WP2 and WP3 through Activity 3: Personal Well-Being Monitoring, providing wearable technology, training, and analytical support. The organization works closely with UGent, AUAS, Charité, and UNIWA to integrate biometric insights into Eportfolio-supported learning, onboarding, and mentorship processes.

The focus is on ethical, GDPR-compliant, and user-centred implementation, ensuring that biometric data empowers users rather than surveils them.

Work Package Objectives

Introduce wearable-based well-being monitoring for final-year students and newly qualified midwives.

Support early detection of stress, overload, and recovery patterns during worksite placement and onboarding.

Train participants and institutions in responsible interpretation and use of biometric data.

Integrate well-being insights into reflective learning and mentoring conversations.

Contribute to evidence on preventive approaches to burnout and early-career attrition.

Key Milestones & Events

Development of protocols for ethical and safe use of wearables in education and practice (Year 1)
Pilot trainings and deployment of wearable devices across Belgium, Germany, and Greece (Years 1 and 2)
