Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of Europe’s largest and most prestigious university hospitals, serving as teaching hospital for the Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The Institute of Midwifery focuses on advancing woman- and family-centred, respectful maternity care across the perinatal continuum. It offers one of Germany’s largest BSc Midwifery programmes which is blending academic study with hands-on clinical practice. The Institute contributes to the advancement of midwifery education, research, and professional development. In line with Charité’s commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, it integrates digital and blended learning approaches — including the use of Eportfolios — to prepare future midwives for their evolving roles in modern healthcare systems.

Professor of Midwifery and Head of the Institute of Midwifery. Her work focuses on respectful maternity care, women’s birth experiences, and the emotional and mental health of women before and after childbirth. She also contributes to several European Erasmus+ collaborations.

Julia Hennicke

Midwife, PhD candidate, and lecturer with a focus on workplace learning, competency-based education, and EPA-based assessment. Experienced in coordinating and developing innovative interprofessional e-portfolio solutions for midwifery education.

Work Package Overview​

Charité leads the development of digital career-readiness training modules embedded within ePortfolios. It conducts needs assessments in three countries, produces training materials to support midwives in navigating recruitment processes, preparing for interviews, and presenting their professional profile , and pilots these with midwifery students and mentors.

Work Package Objectives

Identify skills and gaps affecting employability of graduating midwives.

Design ePortfolio-integrated career-readiness training (CVs, interviews, self-reflection).

Build capacity of mentors to deliver structured digital feedback.

Evaluate training effectiveness across partner institutions.

Ensure integration across all work packages and smooth communication among partners (WP1-WP4).

Disseminate validated templates and learning resources across the EU.
