Welcome!
This regular email newsletter shares updates, insights, and stories from the METIS project as it works to strengthen the transition from midwifery education into professional practice through innovative, Eportfolio-supported approaches. It aims to inform and connect students, educators, and stakeholders while highlighting practical tools, research, and progress that support a more resilient and sustainable midwifery workforce across Europe.
Since METIS project partners held their first kickoff meeting in November 2025, the project has advanced into active implementation—launching student-informed training design, piloting a job application module in 2026, progressing a fully online CPD programme, and refining its digital strategy toward practical, scalable tools—while strengthening coordination through consortium meetings, advisory board engagement, and a growing dissemination platform. Read onwards for more details, upcoming events and publications.
Activity Updates
At the recent in-person METIS meeting in April, partners moved from planning to hands-on engagement across all core project activities.
For Activity 1 (job application training), final-year students took part in focus groups discussions about their needs and barriers rgearding the job application process. Based on these findings, a digital module will be developed. It will focus on reflection on self-representation as professionals, reflecting on competencies, and also include practical skills such as CV development and interview preparation. Alongside this, Activity 2 (continuous professional development) advanced through the initial design of an online CPD programme.
The team was also introduced to Activity 3 (well-being monitoring) through direct experience with the wearable devices, sparking discussion on how real-time data can support stress awareness and resilience during the transition into practice. For Activity 4 (mentorship training), partners explored the Feedback & Connect game—an interactive tool designed to strengthen feedback skills and foster more meaningful mentor–mentee relationships. In parallel, early momentum is building around Activity 5 (digital readiness and research), with several students already beginning thesis work on topics such as digital literacy, feedback preferences, and engagement with ePortfolios.
Together, these activities signal a clear shift from concept to implementation—grounding METIS in practical tools, applied learning, and emerging evidence from the field.
We look forward to sharing more updates from our journey making early career midwives feel more supported across Europe in future newsletters. Want more frequent METIS updates and connect to METIS researchers? You’re encouraged to join our LinkedIn community.
